I certainly wouldn't be surprised by a greater return of the Traditional mass, and I could even see the Pope celebrating it as depicted here (IN fact, I tend to agree with some SSPX commentators, that he is a modernist at heart, though a well meaning modernist. Heck, can anyone avoid such a moniker now? How many can say that they don't subscribe to one of the errors listed by Pius IX, if only through ignorance?).

But the title of the post is simply meant to echo what the author originally said about his childhood, that it was a place to which he could not return. I think the church is essentially incapable of returning to the "innocence" of any previous era. We've got what we've got.
