You and my DH would gat along great. That sounds about like his Great Books list...except for Cormac McCarthy, of whom (I'd imagine) he's never heard.

IMHO, you need to add Jane Austen and P.G. Wodehouse (underrated all-time-great stylist), and you'll be about set.

I would add Remembrance of Things Past--which it took me two and a half years to read, as I mostly read it on the bus and subway to and from work--but nahhh.

Hmmm. I never read Jane Austen (though I was supposed to in college!). I am hesitant to even investigate women writers. The only modern, female writer I admire is Louise Gluck.
